GBAS will enable low visibility landings that will become replacement for the Instrument Landing System developed using 1940's technology.  It represents a 21st Century solution which will help ease the congestion in our skies, minimise the environmental impact of our industry and improve safety.

ICAO last year approved the international standards for the Australian designed Ground-based Regional Augmentation System, known as GRAS, for departure, enroute, terminal and approach operations.

The similarity between GRAS and GBAS has led Airservices Australia and Honeywell to combine forces.
